Hydraulic fracking is the process by which water is forced deep into shale deposits in order to force out natural gas and oil. This process is more widely known as simply fracking. There are many potential risks involved with this process, as it forces the gas and oil into potential groundwater sources and pollutes drinking water. The Marcellus Shale and the Utica Shale are enormous shale deposits that are located a few thousand feet below the earth’s surface, and they both take up large portions of Ohio.

Of all the arts and cultural events in Ohio, theater is perhaps the most renowned. Here are a few of our favorite Ohio theaters to take in a show or check out a concert:
Akron Civic Theater: Located in historic downtown Akron, the Civic Theater hosts plays, performances and even live concerts. Flanked by restaurants and bars, all theater-goers need here for a night out is to set their adt columbus ohio alarms, make the short drive then hand over their tickets!

There are a small handful of beautiful symphonies across Ohio. In the capitol of Ohio, Columbus, the well-known Columbus Symphony Orchestra performs musical programs year-round. The Columbus Symphony orchestra professional performs a variety of pop, classical and family programs along with educational programs and youth orchestras. Perhaps their most popular performance is the annual Holiday Pops. During the holidays the Columbus Symphony orchestra plays festive holiday classics and favorites to enliven the mood of the season.

Art Museums Everyone Should Visit This Year

Everyone should visit the art museums of Ohio.

The top art museum in Ohio is the Cleveland Museum of Art, which recently acquired a Pre-Columbian artworks at auction. The museum is most excited about a bag made by the Wari people of Peru, about 750 AD. The bag, which has a long strap and narrow opening, is made of hardened hide, and has the image of a human head. Ohio has spawned musical wonders in a variety of genres. You might not see any of these performers on your local stage anytime soon, but OhioLyric.com would like to take this time to remember some musicians that have since moved away.Steve Arrington started as a member of the Toledo, Ohio lounge band The Murphy’s. He later became a key member (drumming and vocals) for the popular Ohio funk band Slave, which had several hits including “Just a Touch of Love” and “Watching You.” He later went on to a solo career. Dick Feagleran Ohio treasure

Few people capture the feel of Cleveland like Richard “Dick” Feagler, who started writing his column in 1970 and continued (across several papers) until 2009. The Plain Dealer hosted the longest run of the column, starting in 1993however, he started off in the now-defunct Cleveland Press. Ohio drama fans may know him best for the local stage production of “Christmas at Aunt Ida’s,” which was based off one of his columns and was performed in 2006 and 2007 at the Bay Village Huntington Playhouse. Taking place the year after World War II, “Aunt Ida’s” is the Christmas story of Feagler’s experiences in a household of women, and how some traditions survive despite the horrors of war. (more…)

Columbus Symphony tackles classics and pop standards

No matter what era of music floats your boat, the Columbus Symphony has something to offer. For example, on October 16 conductor Michael Erickson is conducting hits by the Lettermen, the male vocal trio that started performing in 1959 and has had 16 singles hit the top 10 since then, including “Put Your Head on my Shoulder,” “Shangri-La,” and “When I Fall In Love.”The week after that, conductor Jean-Marie Zeitouni shows us the truth of the old adage “If it ain’t baroque, don’t play it”or something like that. Punning aside, the symphony will be performing pieces by Vivaldi, Handel, Bach, Stravinsky, and even the ubiquitous Pachelbel’s Canon. (more…)
