The arts collide at the newly-renovated Columbus Museum of Art
For the Ohioan or Ohio traveller who enjoys a wide range of artistic pursuits, the Columbus Museum of Art is a must-visit destination. 2011 is a great year to visit the Museum for the first time, and even long-time visitors will find something new to explore. The museum recently renovated its Elizabeth M. and Richard M. Ross Building and constructed a new Center for Creativity. The latter site is perfect for both budding artists and parents looking to express their inner Picasso, with special activities that are designed to boost your creative spirits.Of course, art fans have never been disappointed by the CMA’s impressive collection, including beautiful pieces in the Old Masters, Late Modernism & Contemporary, and Folk Art categories. Just one look at the seductive beauty of Artemisia Gentileschi’s Bathsheba (c. 1636) is enough to bring most people back for more. Then again, you may prefer the postmodern style of Malcolm Morley’s Floundering Vessel with Blue Whales and Viking Ships (1998). All is available for 5 for adults, 4 for students and seniors, and 3 for children 6-17. Children 5 and under are free.Make sure to keep a close eye on the museum’s schedule of events for travelling exhibitions and performances. On November 13, Kevin McGuire (Les Miserables, Phantom of the Opera) performed a musical tribute to Irving Berlin and Cole Porter that was simply de-lovely. We’re very excited to see what the CMA has planned next.
